PBWorks and other Web 2.0 Productivity Tools

Dyanne Ferk and I recently presented at the Academic Business Disciplines Conference on Collaborative Web 2.0 Tools for the Teacher Scholar. I created a PBWorks page for the presentation that you might be interested in seeing. Just click on the title above to see. The tools covered in the presentation were PBWorks, Dropbox, Diigo, Google Docs, Google Reader and Evernote.

Diigo

Diigo stands for "Digest of Internet Information, Groups and Other stuff."

It is an advanced social bookmarking site -- bookmark pages, highlight, add sticky notes, create lists of specific bookmarks, or create a group to work with others on a project. Like most social networking sites, you can friend people and see what bookmarks/groups you have in common. The site connects you to other users with similar annotations -- "you are what you annotate."

Diigo launched in July 2006. Create a Diigo account at http://www.diigo.com.

Bookmarking/Searching bookmarks - Annotations are searchable
Lists - Groups of bookmarks
Groups - Colleagues (or students) can use group bookmarks, highlight, and sticky notes to collaborate. There is also a forum feature.
WebSlides - Play your list of bookmarks as a slide show
SideBar - Access and use Diigo as a plug-in for your browser
Communities - Forums for people who follow a particular resource or topic.
Recommended Content - Once you begin annotating (publicly), Diigo will suggest content that you might also be interested in, as well as users who are interested in similar content.
